Employment Procedures

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of San Antonio. The Department of Catholic Schools will facilitate the hiring process by keeping your complete application and required documents on file for one year from the receipt of the application.  They will be made accessible to schools within the Archdiocese.  In order for your file to be activated:

  1. Complete and return the employment application.
  2. Provide official transcripts from all accredited institutions attended. An unofficial copy can be submitted temporarily.
  3. Arrange to have three reference forms sent within 1 month of receipt of the application.
  4. Read the “General Information for Applicants” that follows this letter.

Before being offered a ministry agreement, you must complete a Criminal Background Search Authorization and Release Form and return it to the Archdiocesan Office of Human Resources for processing.  All employment is contingent upon successful completion of the background check.

  • Interviewing and Hiring
    After careful review and evaluation of the required documents, the applicant’s information will be made available to the principals at all archdiocesan affiliated schools. Contacts and interviews will be made by the interested principal. Employment offers will be made by the hiring principal.


  • All salary arrangements are made at the local campus with the school principal.


  1. The Archdiocese of San Antonio provides premium paid medical and dental coverage and a prescription service for all full-time employees of the archdiocese.
  2. Dependent coverage is offered at the employee’s expense.

TCCED Educational Personnel Requirements
(Minimum Requirements)
PRINCIPAL: The Principal must be a Catholic with a commitment to ongoing formation in catechetical and spiritual leadership development. All principals must have a master's degree with 18 hours in educational administration and supervision courses.
TEACHERS: Teachers must hold a bachelor's degree in the area they are assigned to teach or a degree and a minimum of 18 content area hours and 12 education hours. Technology proficiency is required of those teachers who will be integrating technology into the content areas. A special effort is made to hire Catholics as teachers.

(Secondary) Hold a master's degree in library science or a bachelor's degree with a learning resources endorsement. Evidence in proficiency in the use of information technology resources.
(Elementary) Hold a minimum of an Associates Degree or sixty (60) college hours. Evidence of knowledge of library procedures, technical services, material selections, appropriate selection of books, including quality children's literature books, basic reference skills, and the use of information technology resources.

COUNSELOR: Must have a master's degree in counseling. A master's degree in psychology or social work is acceptable if graduate courses in counseling are included in the degree. Texas certification is not required for employment.

Academic Intervention Specialist

The Catholic Schools Office is seeking an Academic Intervention Specialist responsible for the program development of services to students with different learning needs. The position will include:

  • Collaboration with site-based schools to implement academic intervention program;
  • Coordination of testing and evaluation services;
  • Consultation to school administration, faculty, and/or parents regarding interpretation of evaluation and implementation of recommendations and/or accommodations;
  • Direct services and academic support to include classroom observations, teacher coaching, academic planning services, implementation of accommodations and/or modifications, and initiating the referral process;
  • Provide professional development to schools regarding differentiated instruction, intervention, and behavior modification.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Special Education, psychology (clinical, counseling, school) or related field. Licensed Psychological Associate license preferred.
  • Strong elementary/middle school experience, exceptional communication skills, passion for Catholic education, and knowledge of learning styles and learning differences.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School

Major responsibilities include:

  • Develops and oversees implementation of all strategies for attracting and retaining students, spanning outreach, campus visits, admission events, follow-up communication, accepted students initiatives, and student retention initiatives
  • Recruits and trains Parent and Student Ambassadors
  • In collaboration with the building principals, develops annual marketing communications plan and budget, and manages implementation of direct marketing, advertising (electronic and print), e-communications, social media, public relations, and development/design of admission publications
  • Oversees creation of all print, video and web materials for recruitment and enrollment
  • Gives presentations to prospective students and parents in individual and group settings including fairs and informational sessions
  • Builds and maintains relationships with prospective families
  • Guides prospective families through the admission process, maintaining ongoing communication
  • Initiates the new student permanent record during the enrollment process and maintains each from year to year
  • Manages the withdrawal procedures and holds exit interviews, documenting and evaluating the reasons behind various withdrawals
  • Manages fundraisers, grants, support groups, and donor systems

  • 220 work days annually; Some evenings and weekends required due to activities, meetings, and events

St.Gregory the Great

St. Gregory the Great Catholic School in San Antonio Texas, grades PK3 – 8, is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Principal for the 2014-2015 academic year. The Principal will be responsible for the day to day operations and management of staff and students to include curriculum development, staff development, financial management, public relations, and maintenance of school accreditation. The Principal will report to St. Gregory the Great Parish Pastor.

Desired qualifications: Practicing Catholic with a minimum of (2) years administrative experience, a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration or Curriculum, and experience in a Catholic School setting preferred. Must have proven strong communication, organizational and management skills. Must be able to work collaboratively with the Pastor, faculty, school and parish staff, school families, and school advisory board to ensure the mission of the parish and school are fulfilled.

The candidate for this position must be able to create an environment that promotes the Catholic faith and moral development of the school community and should be a practicing and active Roman Catholic in communion with the Church
